LG Unveils New 14/16-inch Ultra PC: Equipped with AMD Barcelo chip
LG has announced it will launch new 14-inch and 16-inch Ultra PC laptops in Europe. The Ultra PC lineup is built around AMD hardware, with 13.3-inch models in the past, the 14-inch and 16-inch models will be powered by AMD’s codenamed Barcelo chips, either the Ryzen 5 5625U or the Ryzen 7 5825U. Sadly, this means features like USB4, PCIe 4.0, and DDR5/LPDDR5 are not supported, as Barcelo is just an update to the Cezanne, which is still based on the Zen 3 architecture. On the plus side, the price will be a bit cheaper.
The 14-inch model has overall dimensions of 313.9 x 220.45 x 16.3 mm and weighs 1.29kg, while the 16-inch model will be slightly larger, with overall dimensions of 356.3 x 248.6 x 16.3 mm and a weight of 1.6kg. Both screens have a resolution of 1920×1200, but the 14-inch model has a brightness of 300 nits and the 16-inch model has a brightness of 250 nits. In addition, both models have 16GB of LPDDR4x-4266 memory, up to 1TB of SSD, equipped with HDMI output, USB-C port with DP Alt mode and USB PD support, two USB-A ports, a microSD card slot, an audio jack, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, HD webcam, and fingerprint recognition device, etc. The battery capacity is both 72Wh.
LG says the 14-inch model has 16.5 hours of battery life at MobileMark 2018, and the 16-inch model has 15 hours of battery life. Depending on the processor and hard drive capacity, LG also offers several configurations. The 14-inch starts at 1,199 euros, and the 16-inch starts at 1,399 euros and is expected to be available this month.
