Leaked Specs Reveal: Core Ultra 5 238V – The High-Memory Lunar Lake Chip

At the beginning of this year’s CES 2024, Intel Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Sales, Marketing, and Communications Group, Michelle Johnston Holthaus, unveiled the next-generation Lunar Lake chips, confirming their launch between this fall and the end of the year. Subsequent reports indicate that Lunar Lake will directly integrate memory, offering 16GB and 32GB dual-channel LPDDR5X-8533 options, with Intel having contracted Samsung to supply the memory chips.

Recently, netizens discovered traces of the Core Ultra 5 238V, the second revealed Lunar Lake model. Compared to the previously revealed Core Ultra 5 234V, the specifications are largely the same, with the main difference being the memory configuration: the Core Ultra 5 234V comes with 16GB of memory, while the Core Ultra 5 238V is equipped with 32GB.

Intel employs packaged memory (MoP) in Lunar Lake, where integrated memory helps reduce power consumption and size. The package measures 27.5 x 27 mm, incorporating the CPU, GPU, and separate SoC module. Apart from Samsung, it is not yet clear if other suppliers will provide LPDDR5X-8533 memory for Lunar Lake.

Lunar Lake is designed for low-power mobile platform systems, with chips ranging from 8W to 30W. The 8W model can operate fanless, while the 17W to 30W models come with fans. It features P-Cores based on the Lion Cove architecture and E-Cores based on the Skymont architecture, with up to 4 P-Cores and 4 E-Cores. It uses the Xe2-LPG architecture from the next-generation Battlemage, with up to 8 Xe-Cores, supporting real-time ray tracing, VCC/H.266 hardware video decoding, and DP 1.4, HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.4/1.5 video outputs. It integrates the next-generation NPU 4.0 neural processing unit, supports PCIe 5.0/4.0 x4 interfaces, includes Thunderbolt 4 with up to three USB4 ports, and through the BE201 network card based on the CNVio2 interface, it supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

According to previously leaked information, there are also two Core Ultra 7 products, which will similarly be available with either 16GB or 32GB of memory.
