iPad Pro Dominance: Apple’s OLED Orders Outshine Surface Pro

The M4 iPad Pro and the new Surface Pro have now been officially launched, with the former featuring Apple’s M4 chip and the latter equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite SoC. Both devices are fitted with OLED screens.

Interestingly, Ross Young, the founder of DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants), recently disclosed that the display panel order data for the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro and the new Surface Pro. In his post, Ross Young stated that Apple began ordering Tandem OLED panels in February 2024, while Microsoft started ordering OLED panels in November 2023. Although Microsoft began ordering display panels earlier than Apple, the current data shows that the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro’s display panel orders have exceeded those of the new Surface Pro by more than 23 times. This data indirectly reflects Apple’s dominance in the tablet market. It is also noteworthy that although the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro also features an OLED screen, the aforementioned data only includes the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro model.

Another point of interest is that despite the high price of the M4 iPad Pro, the series comes standard with OLED displays, whereas the Surface Pro with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite comes standard with an LCD screen.
