Intel’s next-generation Arc Battlemage features 56 Xe cores with GDDR6X
As the vanguard of Intel’s novel high-performance gaming graphics card brand, the Intel Arc introduced its initial generation product, the Alchemist graphics card (DG2) last annum. According to Intel’s formerly declared development agenda, Battlemage follows Alchemist, with the anticipation of its launch in the forthcoming year.
Recently, Twitter user @ unveiled the specifications of the next-generation flagship BMG-G10 chip. Anchored on the Xe2-HPG architecture, it boasts of 56 Xe cores, corresponding to 448 XVEs (EU), with each XVE featuring two shaders. The Adamantine cache sits at 112MB, partnered with GDDR6X video memory, and a memory bit width of 256 bits. As per historical disclosures, the new generation GPU will continue to opt for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as its original equipment manufacturer (OEM), utilizing a 4nm manufacturing process. The total card power consumption is predicted to be contained within 225W, and the video memory capacity should reach 16GB. Intel is likely to select a time frame between the second and third quarters of 2024 for the release.
In an earlier media interaction, Intel researcher Tom Peterson stated that Intel divided the Xe series architecture into four types based on the needs of segmented markets and the scalability and specific applications of Alchemist. Having learned valuable lessons, Battlemage will be simplified into two architectures, namely Xe2-LPG and Xe2-HPG, which will streamline the development of drivers, reduce costs and enhance compatibility.
The Xe2-LPG architecture will be employed for Lunar Lake, possibly adopting a 3nm manufacturing process. The independent graphics card’s GPU will appear earlier than the processor’s integrated GPU module. Lunar Lake is rumored to adopt a completely new CPU architecture and foundational design, primarily focusing on the per-watt performance improvement for mobile devices. Intel announced that Lunar Lake would have a tape-out in 2024, preparing for production.
