Intel removes the old driver and BIOS firmware in the official website
According to Intel’s official announcement, the company will stop providing downloads of legacy drivers and BIOS firmware updates at the official website download center starting this Friday. These legacy drivers and firmware updates are provided for older devices, so being removed for download actually has no effect on most users.
The main software for stopping the download is the motherboards and hardware components released for the time of Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. These operating systems have been backed up by Microsoft for many years and no longer provide updates, and it seems that Intel does not need to continue hosting. The drivers and firmware that were removed are also stopped updating, but Intel always provides downloads of these old programs in the download center.
Of course, here are reminders of industrial and manufacturing users, if the industrial control field still uses this very old equipment, it is recommended to download the backup in advance so that it can be used from time to time. The download of the above legacy drivers and BIOS firmware updates will expire on November 22, 2019, after which Intel will remove the download address.
