Intel regains mobile and desktop market share from AMD
In the past few years, Intel has been under pressure from AMD, and the market share of mobile and desktop has been continuously lost. A few months ago, data provided by research and analysis firm Mercury Research showed that AMD’s overall market share of x86 processors in the second quarter of 2022 has exceeded the 30% mark, reaching 31.4%, setting a new record high again.
In fact, after the launch of Alder Lake, Intel gradually regained some sense on the consumer side and stabilized its position. The latest data from Mercury Research shows that in the third quarter of 2022, AMD’s desktop processor market fell by 6.6% quarter-on-quarter and 3.1% year-on-year; the mobile processor market fell by 9.7% month-on-month and 6.3% year-on-year, with a large loss; in terms of server processors, AMD is still strong, with a month-on-month increase of 3.6% and a year-on-year increase of 7.3%; the overall market share of x86 processors turned from rising to falling, falling to 28.5%, down 3.9% year-on-year.
The impact of AMD’s loss of market share in mobile and desktop has been reflected in its third-quarter 2022 earnings report. It is expected that Intel will continue to steal mobile and desktop market share from AMD under the leadership of the new generation of Raptor Lake.
