Intel no longer supports integrated graphics driver updates for 6th – 10th-Gen CPUs
As Microsoft is about to release Windows 11 22H2, manufacturers have moved in advance to launch corresponding drivers to better support the new features brought by the Windows 11 operating system. Generally, when more important updates are encountered, manufacturers may choose to no longer support some old hardware.
Intel officially issued an announcement saying that from July 27, 2022, the integrated graphics of the 6th to 10th generation processors (from Skylake to Comet Lake) will be transferred to the legacy software support model, covering the core and related Atom, Pentium, and Celeron processor. In the future, Intel will only provide software support for critical fixes and security vulnerabilities for affected products, and its software updates will be released quarterly or as needed with software releases.
This means that the integrated display of Intel’s 10th generation and below processors will no longer receive the first launch support for games, and the driver will also be split into two different versions from the 11th generation (Rocket Lake) and above processors. Intel currently packages the two together, and the executable automatically selects the appropriate driver for the user’s system, so the user doesn’t have to think about which driver to install.
According to Intel’s announcement, the affected processors include products codenamed Skylake, Apollo Lake, Kaby Lake, Amber Lake, Coffee Lake, Whiskey Lake, Comet Lake, Gemini Lake, Ice Lake, Lakefield, Jasper Lake, and Elkhart Lake.
