Indian official issued TikTok ban and request Google and Apple to remove this app

India officially asked Apple and Google to remove the popular short video application TikTok from its app store. It is reported that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India has made this request after the Supreme Court of India has vetoed the ban on TikTok by the lower court.

The High Court had asked the government to ban users from downloading TikTok on the grounds that the application was dangerous for children. However, TikTok has said that more than 6 million videos have been deleted and complained about the official treatment of it.

TikTok – owned by the Chinese company ByteDacnce – said in a statement that it has faith in the Indian Judicial system to pass a fair judgment:

As per the proceedings in the Supreme Court today, the Madras High Court will hear the matter on ex parte ad interim oder. The Supreme Court has listed the matter again for April 22, 2019, to be apprised of the outcome of the hearing on the April 16th, 2019 before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. At TikTok, we have faith in the Indian Judicial system and the stipulations afforded to social media platforms by the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011. We are committed to continuously enhancing our existing measures and introducing additional technical and moderation processes as part of our ongoing commitment to our users in India.

This is not the only banned app in India. Earlier in March, India’s police announced a ban on PUBG in public, saying the game would poison young people and arrested 10 people. However, in early April, India withdrew the ban.
