ICANN calls for full deployment of DNSSEC to effectively prevent & protect the Internet

Network domain name administrators, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), recently issued a warning that there are ongoing and significant security updates in key parts of the DNS infrastructure. ICANN oversees the management of global Internet communication addresses through the Domain Name System (DNS), which converts the address entered by the user into a unique numeric address, allowing users to access the corresponding website. However, ICANN announced this Friday that the DNS infrastructure is becoming the target of “malicious activity.”

In response to such DNS attacks, ICANN called for the full deployment of the Domain Name System Security Extension (DNSSEC). DNSSEC is an effective technique for digitally “signing” data to prevent victims from redirecting to malicious websites. By deploying DNSSEC, you can effectively block the “man in the middle” attack mode. Through this type of attack, the fraudster can redirect the victim to a carefully crafted fake website and trick them into providing login credentials, payment information, and other personal information.

While ICANN acknowledges that their proposed solution (including full deployment of DESSEC) does not address all Internet security issues, it should be effective in reducing cybersecurity risks.
