Huawei joins the OIN community and signs a non-infringement Linux patent agreement
Huawei would join the patent protection community OIN (Open Invention Network) as a licensee and member of the OIN community, agreeing to avoid patent royalties and non-infringement with other OIN members in the form of cross-licensing its patents.
OIN is a defensive patent pool and community of patent non-aggression which enables freedom of action in Linux. Learn about OIN’s mission, team, supporters, and more.
Over 2,000 organizations have joined OIN. In support of patent non-aggression. For free access to OIN’s patents. And to gain royalty free access to Linux System patents of other OIN participants.
Huawei is a long-term member of the Linux Foundation and other open-source organizations, including the OpenStack Foundation and Cloud Native Computing Foundation. In October last year, Huawei became a strategic member of the Eclipse Foundation.
The Register believes that Huawei ’s trade sanctions and licensing issues with Google are reasons why the company is further embracing open source. OIN CEO Keith Bergelt told The Register that Huawei ’s political pressure has given the company ’s leadership a deep understanding of Huawei ’s position and sense of responsibility not only to become a good citizen in the open-source community but also to become a model citizen.
