Huawei considers in-depth cooperation with Russian open source operating system Aurora
Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Konstantin Noskov and Huawei’s rotating chairman Guo Ping discussed the possibility of using Aurora operating system on Huawei equipment, Russia Telecom operator Rostelecom said it is willing to accept cooperation. It is said that the two also discussed the issue of localized production of some Huawei equipment in Russia.
Aurora OS formerly known as Sailfish is an open source mobile phone operating system in Russia. Russia’s largest telecommunications company, Rostelecom, acquired a three-quarters stake in developer OMP last year. In most countries of the world, Android and iOS are the most commonly used mobile phone systems, but Aurora is used and promoted more in Russia. Sailfish was further developed and renamed Aurora after being acquired by Rostelecom. Due to its ease of operation and safety, it has become the premier system of Russia’s “Alternative Android” program in 2016 and is now widely used in all areas of Russian society.
According to industry insiders, the Aurora operating system may be used first in Huawei terminals. As the operating system reliability and user experience continue to improve, it will achieve better integration with Hongmeng OS. In addition, this is also the pioneering work of Sino-Russian scientific research cooperation to break the US hegemony of science and technology. Aurora and Hongmeng form a strategic resonance, which is also conducive to Huawei’s realization of “autonomous controllability” in the true sense.
