HP is preparing to launch a foldable OLED notebook

HP may be preparing to launch a foldable 17-inch laptop with a screen using LG’s OLED screen this year. According to The Elec,  SK IE Technology, a subsidiary of SK Hynix Group, will provide a flexible polyimide (PI) film for covering the surface of the LG OLED screen on HP’s foldable notebook.

At present, for foldable devices, two types of flexible screens are generally used to cover the surface to protect the screen, one is ultra-thin glass (UTG), and the other is the flexible polyimide film mentioned above. Each has its own unique features and advantages. For example, Samsung’s current foldable phone uses UTG, but the original Galaxy Z uses a flexible polyimide film.

The foldable notebook that HP will launch this time is rumored to use a 4K flexible screen. It should be the bendable OLED panel that LG exhibited at this year’s CES, which can be unfolded from the original 11-inch to the size of 17 units. In addition, this notebook will also support touch and stylus input, so it should be a product for creative people.

But this notebook should not be much in terms of supply, because the report also mentioned that SK IE Technology and LG will supply 10,000 pieces of flexible polyimide films and bendable OLED screens to HP. And this also confirms the statement that this notebook is aimed at a relatively small group of people to a certain extent.
