Honda will use new battery technology to reduce vehicle manufacturing costs
After partnering with Sony to enter the electric vehicle market, Honda has announced plans to reduce car production costs with new battery technology and launch more affordable, smaller electric vehicles.
Unlike many car manufacturers who are struggling with the high cost of battery technology, Honda hopes to reduce overall production costs of electric vehicles with its new battery technology and attract more consumers by launching more affordable, smaller electric vehicles.
Similar efforts have been made by the Foxconn-led electric vehicle consortium, MIH which announced its Project X plan at the end of last year, aimed at developing modular micro electric vehicles. Tesla is also rumored to be launching a small electric vehicle, tentatively named the Model 2, in order to further reduce car production costs and accelerate the development of electric vehicle popularization.
In theory, electric vehicles should have simpler structural designs than traditional fuel vehicles. However, the high cost of battery and electric motor technologies is still a key issue. If the cost of battery components can be further reduced, the overall cost of electric vehicles will decrease significantly.
After Nissan announced the successful development of a new solid-state battery, Honda has recently stated that it will strengthen the development and application of new energy technologies, and also focus on the development of solid-state battery technology. Toyota is also continuing to lay out its strategy for fuel cells and other new energy technologies, in order to accelerate the transformation of traditional car manufacturers.
