GPU frequency of the Samsung Galaxy with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Reaches 1000MHz

Previously, Samsung executives confidently asserted that the Exynos 2400’s GPU, the Xclipse 920, would surpass the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform’s Samsung Galaxy custom edition. However, recent revelations have highlighted that the latter outscored the former in Geekbench’s Vulkan test. Yesterday, the well-regarded digital blogger Ice Universe disclosed on the X platform that the GPU frequency of the Samsung Galaxy custom edition of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform is 1000MHz.

If the leaked information is accurate, the Samsung Galaxy S24 is poised to become one of the first smartphones to achieve a GPU frequency of 1000MHz. It is understood that the standard edition of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform’s GPU, the Adreno 750, operates at a frequency of 900MHz, while the GPU of the second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, the Adreno 740, is clocked at 720MHz. This suggests a significant graphical performance advantage for the Samsung Galaxy S24 over its competitors.

There were also rumors circulating that the Exynos 2400’s GPU, the Xclipse 920, had a higher main frequency, reaching 1700MHz. However, due to the architectural limitations of RDNA 2, its GPU frequency has been reduced by 20-30%, now sitting between 1100MHz and 1200MHz. Although the Exynos 2400 seems to have an edge in frequency data over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform, it still trails by 1655 points in Geekbench’s Vulkan test, while it leads by 177 points in the OpenCL test. Therefore, to truly determine the graphical prowess of these two SoCs, we must await real-world gaming tests upon their release.

The test data suggests that the standard edition of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform already surpasses Apple’s A17 Pro chip in GPU performance. Thus, it is reasonable to believe that the Samsung Galaxy custom edition of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform will further widen the performance gap with the Apple A17 Pro in terms of graphics capabilities. Moreover, this SoC is expected to transform the Samsung Galaxy S24 into a formidable weapon for the next generation of mobile gaming.
