Google will imporve Android Things, the Internet of Things platform
In the blog post updated today, Google said it will invest to improve on the Android Thing platform. Android Thing was first released in December 2016. It is an Android-based platform for smart devices. In Google’s original vision, it covers all IoT devices including small robots, art devices, projectors, and 3D printers. For many years, only a small number of smart speakers and smart displays have come out.
The predecessor of Android Things is actually the Internet of Things platform Brillo released in 2015. In addition to inheriting the functions of Brillo, it also includes tools and services familiar to Android developers such as Android Studio, Android SDK, Google Play services and Google Cloud Platform. Developers no longer need to compile the entire operating system, but only need to develop an APK, which greatly reduces the development threshold.
Android Things natively supports the IoT communication protocol Weave, which allows all types of devices to connect to the cloud and interact with other services such as Google Assistant.
