Google: US Senator Gmail account has become a target for foreign hackers
Google confirmed on Thursday that some US senators and assistants’ Gmail accounts had become the focus of foreign government hackers. But Google’s spokesperson declined to give more details, including how many people were affected, where the country-supported attacks came from, and when warnings were issued.
On Wednesday, Democratic Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon sent a letter to the Senate leadership, saying his office had discovered that “at least one major technology company” had notified the senators and their aides. Initially, Google had no comment.
The fake news cases that surfaced in the 2016 US elections have caused many technology companies, including Google, Facebook and Twitter, to be overwhelmed. To this end, in the mid-term elections this year, these technology giants have taken similar measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
