Google updates Coral SBC to Mendel Linux 4.0
Last weekend, Google officially announced the arrival of Mendel Linux (4.0 release Day). As the company’s Debian-built GNU / Linux distribution specifically for its Coral development boards and on-chip modules, it uses Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS kernel and component update support. Earlier this year, Google released the Coral Dev Board single-board computer (SBC), which competes with the Raspberry Pi, and the System-on-Module.
The project has now received an improved, more stable and latest Mendel Linux OS. It is based on the Debian GNU/Linux 10 “Buster” operating system series, with Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS kernel, Python 3.7, U-Boot 2017.03.3, and upgraded GStreamer, OpenCV, and OpenCL components.
Carlos Mendonça, product manager of the Coral team, said: “We’ve also made it possible to use the Dev Board’s GPU to convert YUV to RGB pixel data at up to 130 frames per second on 1080p resolution, which is one to two orders of magnitude faster than on Mendel Linux 3.0 release Chef. These changes make it possible to run inferences with YUV-producing sources such as cameras and hardware video decoders. ”
Google urges all Coral SBC users to upgrade to Mendel Linux 4.0. Interested friends can refer to the documentation on refreshing the system image mentioned in the internal documentation.
