According to the official blog published by the Google Cloud Computing Platform, Google
plans to launch its first data center in Japan next year, located in Inzai City, Chiba. Google has not built a data center in Japan until now, while rivals Amazon and Microsoft have already started their startups in Tokyo.
Google, which had been lagging behind its rivals in the cloud computing competition, finally remembered Japan and planned to invest about $730 million to build infrastructure in Japan. In fact, Google provides cloud computing services in Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka, but these data centers are not built by Google itself. It is used to meet the needs of Google search, video websites, office, and mail, and of course, the most important thing is to provide competitive services for local enterprises.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that by 2023, Google will invest $730 million in Japan to build network infrastructure to help companies digitize. At the same time, a digital training program will be launched for companies and individuals to help Japanese companies and individual workers embrace digital transformation and improve their competitiveness.
In addition to planning to build its own data center in Japan, Google actually announced at the beginning of the year that it would build a submarine cable from Japan to Canada with its partners. Google is very keen to build submarine cables to increase the transmission capacity between regions. Of course, these submarine cables will also charge competitors for their use. Recently, Google is also frantically starting construction and putting into production new data centers, including Mexico, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, etc., which have been put into use one after another.
