Google pays $1.5 billion to Apple to become default search engine
Google usually pays its partners generous remuneration to gain a dominant position. Earlier in the copyright war between Google and Oracle, Oracle disclosed that Google paid Apple $1 billion annually to become the default search for iOS devices.
The default search engine of Safari browser is Google search, Siri assistant uses Google search to retrieve data, Spotlight, etc. also uses Google search.
Google is willing to pay not only to become a default search for higher income but also to suppress competitors such as Microsoft Bing and Yahoo search engine services.
In the latest report, the British antitrust regulator said that Google pays partners $1.5 billion annually, to maintain related cooperation.
Most of the $1.5 billion was taken by Apple. For this reason, Apple replaced the default search engines of browsers such as iOS series devices and Macs with Google Search.
The British antitrust agency said that considering the huge market share of Apple’s series of devices, the agency believes that the cooperation between Google and Apple will cause great difficulties to competitors.
It is difficult for other competitors to enter the user’s field of vision, so this will seriously affect the free competition in the mobile search market, which is also not conducive to the development of the search market.
To this end, the agency suggested that Apple should be restricted from making profits through the default search engine, or that Apple should provide default search engine selection options on the device.
