Google launches free Kotlin and Android development courses
Google has launched a series of Kotlin and Android online courses designed to teach people how to build Android applications. The course is for beginners such as novices who have no programming experience.
Kotlin is now a hot language, and this may be due in part to Android’s official support for Kotlin. According to official data provided by Android, 60% of professional Android developers have adopted the language. In the Play Store, 70% of the top 1000 apps use Kotlin.
In 2016, Google released Android basic courses. But in the past four years, four major versions of Android have been released, support for the Kotlin programming language has been added, and tools to assist in building applications, such as the Jetpack library, have been introduced. Therefore, the launch of this new course is a major update on the original basis.
The latest Stack Overflow developer survey shows that nearly 40% of professional developers have not previously obtained a formal degree in computer or software engineering.
The course content includes: how to use Android Studio to build applications and how to run them on Android devices (or virtual devices). Google said that with hands-on practice in conjunction with the course, beginners can also complete a series of Android applications. You can learn about this course here.
For developers with programming experience, Google also provides three other free courses, namely Kotlin Bootcamp for Programmers, Android Kotlin Fundamentals, and Advanced Android in Kotlin.
