Google
announced that the Google Hangouts service will be officially shut down in November this year and will be replaced by Google Chat in the future.
The predecessor of Google Hangouts is the Google Talk service launched in 2005, and in 2011, it became the communication function of the community service Google+. In 2013, with the revision of the Google+ service, it became an independent service project and integrated the original Google Talk, Google+ Messenger, and Google Voice communication services.
However, following application requirements, Google Hangouts will be split into Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat. The Hangouts Meet was later incorporated into the G Suite services at that time (later Workspace), and Hangouts Chat was integrated into services such as Gmail, allowing ordinary users to quickly communicate and make calls online.
But after Hangouts Meet changed its name to Google Meet, and Hangouts Chat changed its name to Google Chat, Google is apparently ready to start dropping the Hangouts brand name, so it considered taking the Google Hangouts service off the market in 2019. It was only in the follow-up that the service termination time was repeatedly delayed, and it was not until March this year that it officially announced the separation from the Workspace service, and it was determined that it would officially end its operation in November this year.
In the future, Google Hangouts will be replaced by Google Chat, and the web version of Google Hangouts will no longer be available.
