Google & Facebook announced to temporarily ban all medical masks ads

The current pneumonia epidemic caused by the new coronavirus is raging around the world, and the demand for protective products such as medical masks has soared or even exceeded supply.

At present, there are a lot of inferior masks and even fake masks on the market. These inferior products are being sold quickly through online channels to obtain huge profits.

There is also a case that some medical mask products are indeed regular products but the prices have been doubled by the sellers, for which Google is suppressing this behavior through advertising policies.

The latest news released by the Google advertising team states that all medical mask products have been banned from being put on sale, and approved ads will also be refunded in the near future.

This update is also a temporary restriction that is only implemented during the epidemic period. After the epidemic is over, medical mask products will resume advertising without category control.

It is worth noting that only the medical mask category is restricted this time, and other types of masks and peripheral products such as disinfectant and protective clothing are also not restricted.

Google said the company is currently evaluating other medical products in order to decide whether to extend the advertising ban to masks and peripheral products.

At the same time, Google also said that it will take some time to withdraw the ads that have been placed, so users may occasionally see online advertisements for a small number of medical masks in the next few days.

For the same reasons as Google, Facebook has taken the lead to ban advertisements for medical masks earlier, regardless of the region, directly prohibit customers from placing such advertisements.

At the same time, Facebook’s advertising restrictions are temporary, so it is designed to be implemented during the epidemic. After the epidemic is over, Facebook customers can resume advertising on Facebook.

Amazon, the e-commerce platform, does not directly ban the advertising and sales of mask products, but it has anomalous prices, such as those that have doubled prices before.

Amazon said it has now banned more than 5 million mask products with abnormal prices and continued to crack down on merchants whose prices soared during the epidemic.
