Google extends the Chromebook update service period to provide 8-year free updates for new products
When Google launched the Chromebook for the first time, they promised to provide it with free automatic updates for three years. This automatic update service includes security patches, bug fixes, and new feature additions. The Chromebook will periodically receive updates pushed by Google until the automatic update expiry, and then Google has extended the update service period for Chromebooks several times.
Today, Google announced that it will provide up to 8 years of free automatic update services for the latest Chromebook devices like the Lenovo 10e Chromebook Tablet and Acer Chromebook 712.
With the announcement of Google ’s decision to extend the automatic update time, many people began to think that Chromebooks are more worth buying than Windows devices in the field of education. However, Google did not give away 8 years of update services for free, and they also updated the Chromebook for education.
With 20+ new devices for education, extended years of automatic updates on more devices and more than 200 controls for admins and counting in Google Admin Console, Chromebooks can provide a stronger return on investment than ever before. To support this greater lifespan, we’ve increased the list price of the Chrome Education Upgrade from $30 to $38.
