Google Chrome warns Indian users password leaks due to Chrome bug
Google Chrome has been experiencing constant problems in the recently released version 79 series. First, it crashed frequently and then it was confirmed that the Android version of the application data was deleted. In this version, Google brings the account password leak check and security warning function, which will scan the user’s existing password against the leaked database. If the password is found in the leaked database, a security warning is issued to remind users to change the password immediately to ensure the security of various website accounts. However, this new feature has caused many Indian users to panic, because a large number of Indian users have received reminders that some specific account passwords have been leaked.
Recently, a large number of Indian users will receive password leakage warnings after upgrading to the latest version. Google Chrome advises users to change their passwords in order to ensure security. In fact, the user’s password was not disclosed. These warnings were issued by Google Chrome by mistake, and only Indian users were affected by the error.
Google engineers later confirmed this error and said that 50% of Indian users are expected to be affected, but statistics since then show that 15% of users are affected. Although the number of affected users is much less than expected by Google engineers, there are so many Google Chrome users that hundreds of thousands of users may be affected. Google engineers have confirmed the issue in the forum and indicated that potential solutions are being discussed. Users in other countries and regions are not affected by this issue.
