Google cancels April Fools prank this year
Google has always had a tradition of “trickling” users with elaborate pranks in its products on April Fool’s Day, but this year, due to the serious threat of coronavirus, Google decided to temporarily cancel the show. Google said that given the current situation, they should focus on helping fight COVID-19 rather than preparing for a prank.
According to an internal email obtained by Business Insider, Google pays tribute to all those fighting COVID-19, and April Fool’s Day prank tradition will be suspended this year. Currently, their highest goal is to help people, so planning to keep this prank until next April is undoubtedly better than it is now.
Lorraine Twohill, Google ’s marketing director, continued to add an email saying that “We’ve already stopped any centralized April Fool’s efforts but realize there may be smaller projects within teams that we don’t know about. Please suss out those efforts and make sure your teams pause on any jokes they may have planned — internally or externally.”
