Gogoro and Enel X expand cooperation, will connect 2,500 GoStation battery exchange stations with virtual power plants
Gogoro has announced a collaboration with Taiwanese virtual power plant operator Enel X, connecting nearly 1,300 GoStation battery swap stations to Enel X’s virtual power plant infrastructure in April this year. Plans are underway to integrate over 1,200 additional GoStation battery swap stations by the end of the year, enabling the storage of electricity at GoStations to be channeled back to the grid during emergencies through Enel X’s virtual power plant infrastructure.
Initially partnering in 2021, the collaboration allowed Enel X to consolidate various electricity resources and coordinate with Taiwan Power Company for the allocation of large battery swap stations, maintaining grid balance and stable operations. This extended collaboration entails constructing 2,500 GoStation battery swap stations across 1,000 virtual power plant locations under Enel X. By April, over 500 virtual power plant locations were equipped with 1,300 GoStation battery swap stations, providing battery exchange for Gogoro and PBGN vehicles under normal circumstances and enabling the power supply to the grid during emergencies.
Gogoro emphasizes that its collaboration with Enel X will promote greater flexibility in electricity consumption in Taiwan, expanding the range of electric vehicle battery replacement while ensuring sufficient power supply to the grid during emergencies. Enel X acknowledges the importance of virtual power plants, stating that its partnership with Gogoro serves as a foundation for future collaborations with renewable energy sources and aims to achieve a more flexible and efficient application of electricity through virtual power plant-driven power transmission.
Taiwan Power Company anticipates that Taiwan’s shared electricity economy will grow to several hundred billion Taiwan dollars, indicating that the collaboration between Gogoro and Enel X will create significant market development opportunities.
