Galaxy S22 series will use Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor only

Samsung will hold “Galaxy Unpacked 2022” on February 8, and release three models of Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. According to the original plan, the Galaxy S22 series will be divided into two platforms: Samsung Exynos 2200 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. With Samsung delaying the Exynos launch, the prospect of the next-generation Exynos 2200 has also cast a shadow.

In the next-generation Galaxy S22 series, Samsung will use the Exynos 2200 in Europe and South America, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in North America, mainland China, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, India, and South Korea, which is also a common practice in the past Galaxy S series. According to Wccftech, the news indicates that Samsung may cancel the Exynos 2200 on the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy S22 launch could be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-only affair. Samsung will eventually launch the Exynos 2200 though, only choosing to partner with other smartphone makers to allow them to use the next-generation SoC. It is rumored that Samsung has already contacted some manufacturers. If the Exynos 2200 is canceled, it will make the other party very uncomfortable.

This is not the first time that such news has appeared. As early as more than two months ago, it was reported that the Exynos 2200 encountered setbacks in the manufacture of the 4nm LPE process, with yield problems and higher power consumption than expected. Samsung’s decision is likely to affect Qualcomm’s original plan, which had to increase the number of orders for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and ultimately had to turn to TSMC.

In fact, it was reported last month that Samsung’s 4nm process has yield problems, and Qualcomm plans to place orders for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips from Samsung and TSMC at the same time to diversify the supply chain and ensure the supply of chips.
