Ahead of the GDC 2022 event, Luminous Production, the studio responsible for the game’s development has confirmed that it will be demoing the PC version of Forspoken. It uses the Luminous Engine and supports Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), Screen Space Reflection (SSR), Ray Tracing Shadows (RTS), FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, and DirectStorage technologies.
Previously, Microsoft announced that the DirectStorage API can be used on the PC platform. This technology allows the storage device to bypass the CPU and memory and transfer data directly to the video memory, which can greatly reduce the game loading time and solve the problem of some material loading errors. In theory, games using this technology can seamlessly join scenes, just like on the Xbox Series X/S. At the time, Microsoft had confirmed that Forspoken was the first PC game to use DirectStorage technology.
According to VideoCardz, at this GDC 2022 event, Luminous Production studios showcased DirectStorage technology that seems to support any storage device, including M.2 SSDs, SATA SSDs, and even HDDs. Load times vary widely due to the large speed differences between different storage devices. Given that Microsoft has only just announced the DirectStorage API, it will be a while before we see more game adoption.
Forspoken is the second game confirmed to support FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, and the effects of this technology are also very interesting. At present, Square Enix is still developing this adventure game, and the release time has also been delayed, from the originally planned turn of spring and summer to October 11, 2022.
Forspoken is currently available for pre-order for $69.99.
