Former AMD chief-architect was appointed executive vice president of graphics and architecture business unit in Intel
In the field of chip manufacturing, Intel and AMD are still competitors, so it is very common to steal each other’s engineers from each other every day. For example, Intel this month robbed a chief architect of AMD, who is in charge of cloud gaming and console chip business at AMD. According to CRN reports, Ali Ibrahim, the chief architect of AMD has been working for AMD for 13 years.
After joining Intel this month, Ibrahim ceased to be the chief architect but became the executive vice president of Intel ’s architecture, graphics, and software business units. Intel did not disclose Ibrahim’s specific responsibilities in Intel’s official press release. “We are thrilled that Ali has joined Intel as Vice President, Platform Architecture and Engineering – dGPUs to be part of the exciting Intel Xe graphics journey,” said an Intel spokesperson in a comment to CRN.
CRN said that Intel may be interested in Ibrahim’s experience at AMD, which can provide valuable insights on Intel’s construction of high-end graphics display cards.
At present, Intel is vigorously promoting the development of graphics display card products and technologies. The company is also preparing to launch discrete graphics cards to compete with AMD and Nvidia.
