Firefox browser disables Windows Password Prompt
Firefox adds the Windows 10 password verification feature to the recently released stable version update, which is designed to protect the Firefox browser’s saved passwords.
In the past, users need to view the password saved in Firefox browser, just go to the settings to view, which means anyone can use this computer to view the password.
Therefore, based on security considerations, the Firefox browser adds security options. When the user does not set the master password, if he wants to view the password, he must pass the Microsoft authentication.
Unexpectedly, after the launch of this feature, many Firefox users complained that these users think that it is too much trouble to verify the password every time they want to check it.
After receiving the user’s complaint about this feature, the Mozilla has begun to deploy an update to the user. This update can automatically disable Windows Password Prompt. When the user receives the update, it will be canceled to call Windows 10 Password Prompt.
After disabling this function, it is indeed more convenient to view the saved password every time, but the price is that anyone using the user’s computer can directly view the saved password.
As an alternative option, we strongly recommend that Firefox browser users configure a master password. After configuring the master password, you need to enter the master password for verification every time you view the password.
Of course, if users feel convenient and don’t pay much attention to security, you can directly disable Microsoft authentication through the following options without waiting for Firefox to push.
# Go to Firefox browser open configuration options
about:config
# Enter os-auth in the search box and switch the boolean values of the following options to false
signon.management.page.os-auth.enabled
It is worth noting that currently in the Mozilla Firefox v76.x version, you can use the above configuration item switch to switch whether to call the Microsoft authentication protection password.
In the next stable version, which is Mozilla Firefox v78.x, Firefox will directly delete this feature, and users can no longer turn on this feature through configuration items.
