FIFA 23 will be the last FIFA series game and will be renamed EA SPORTS FC later
After almost 30 years of cooperation, EA’s partnership with FIFA will end next year. FIFA 2023 will be the last football game released by EA with the FIFA name, after which the new football series will be replaced by the EA SPORTS FC name.
Since the end of last year, the statement that EA and FIFA will terminate their cooperation has basically been true. First, EA extended its contract with the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO), and then there was news that FIFA paid EA a four-year licensing fee of $1 billion. Although EA’s official statement to the outside world is that FIFA’s licensing has affected the development of the game, it is obviously the main reason for the high licensing fee that has not been negotiated.
In the announcement of this name change, EA said that the new EA SPORTS FC game will continue to bring players the best football game experience, and the next FIFA 2023 will also be the best game in the FIFA series. “EA SPORTS FC will allow us to realize this future and much more…but not before we deliver our most expansive game ever with our current naming rights partner, FIFA, for one more year. We are committed to ensuring the next FIFA is our best ever, with more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players than any FIFA title before.”
According to EA, they will still have the same number of players, clubs, and league authorizations as in the original “FIFA” series after the name change. As for the World Cup and the national team, they will say goodbye to everyone because they do not have FIFA authorization.
