Epic Games announces the acquisition of Brazilian game development studio AQUIRIS
Epic Games announces the acquisition of Brazilian game development studio AQUIRIS. The precise sum of the transaction remains undisclosed; however, Epic Games states that the purchase builds upon an initial investment in AQUIRIS in early 2022. Upon completion of the deal, AQUIRIS will undergo restructuring and rebrand as Epic Games Brasil.
Established in 2007 and located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, AQUIRIS has previously developed the nostalgically-styled racing game “Horizon Chase” and its sequel “Horizon Chase 2,” as well as the highly versatile adventure game “Wonderbox: The Adventure Maker,” garnering substantial praise from players. Following the acquisition, the game studio will participate in the development of the popular game “Fortnite,” creating innovative content and social experiences.
AQUIRIS CEO Mauricio Longoni asserts that AQUIRIS has consistently been at the forefront of game development in Brazil and Latin America. By becoming a part of Epic Games, the studio will focus on developers across the entire regional industry. The game studio will continue to operate its existing lineup of games while employing its expertise in the Unreal Engine to contribute to Fortnite’s future.
With the acquisition of AQUIRIS, Epic Games has established its first game studio in Latin America. Alain Tascan, Executive Vice President of Game Development at Epic Games, expresses a clear appreciation for the AQUIRIS team’s talents in innovative game development. He warmly welcomes them into the Epic Games family, hoping that the establishment of Epic Games Brasil will enable Epic Games to tap into the region’s talent pool and assist in expanding the company’s operations throughout Latin America.
