DRAM prices are expected to drop in 2022Q3

According to the latest survey report by TrendForce, DDR5 penetration is currently rising, but weak electronics demand in the third quarter of 2022 due to multiple headwinds may affect overall DRAM inventory. TrendForce expects overall DRAM prices to fall by 3% to 8% in the third quarter of 2022, and some DRAM products used in PCs and smartphones may fall by more than 8%.

At present, OEMs are adjusting their PC shipment targets for this year, and DRAM inventories have soared rapidly due to weakening demand. In the third quarter of 2022, OEMs will focus on the adjustment and destocking of DRAM inventory, and it is unlikely that the purchasing momentum will rebound. As the overall DRAM industry is still oversupplied, even if the PC market is sluggish, it will be difficult for suppliers to reduce DRAM supply, causing DRAM prices to decline by 3% to 8% in the third quarter of 2022.

For server DRAM, the general inventory level for customers at this stage is around 7 to 8 weeks. Due to high uncertainty in DRAM demand for PCs and mobile devices in the second quarter of 2022, leading suppliers to shift production capacity to server DRAM while adopting some sales strategies to reduce the decline in prices, server DRAM prices are expected to fall by 5% in the third quarter of 2022.

Due to lower-than-expected sales in the consumer market, suppliers continue to reduce the proportion of mobile DRAM production to stabilize market prices and inventories. Mobile DRAM prices are expected to fall by 3% to 8% in the third quarter of 2022, under pressure from both revenue and inventory. In terms of DRAM used in the graphics field, it is also affected by the increase in inventory and the uncertainty of subsequent demand. Suppliers hope that the price will remain stable, and the price is expected to fall by 5% in the third quarter of 2022.
