The BIOS firmware released by Dell causes Latitude and Alienware to fail to boot or blue screen

Recently, many Dell and Alienware users complained that the device cannot start after updating the firmware. In fact, the device has started but cannot enter the desktop and then has a blue screen of death. Affected include Dell Latitude 5320, Dell Latitude 5520, Dell Inspiron 5680, and Alienware Aurora R8 desktops.

The users who have problems have updated the BIOS firmware released by Dell before. After the update, the system will not start and the blue screen of death will appear immediately when the system is restarted.

In the official Dell forum, a user posted that after the Dell Latitude 5320 firmware was upgraded to version 1.14.3, the device immediately failed to start abnormally.

When the power button is pressed, the power indicator will be on for about 10 seconds and then go out automatically. The same situation is still true when the power button is pressed again to try to start the device.

Dell BIOS Update Blue Screen

Some users say that sometimes the entire keyboard backlight will be on but then the device will shut down. Even if you click the Continue button according to the prompts, the device will automatically shut down, and there are several times when the system has been successfully started but then a blue screen of death appears and cannot be restarted.

Regarding this issue, Dell has not yet issued a response, and naturally, there is no solution. However, some users who encountered similar problems that should downgrade the firmware, and then the system was restored.

Dell officially has a SupportAssist OS Recovery tool, with which the BIOS firmware can be downgraded separately without reinstalling the system.

After successfully downgrading the firmware, it still cannot start normally. You need to unplug the charger and battery and wait for 15 seconds, then reinsert the battery and charger and try to start again.

Users who encounter this problem can try the above-mentioned unofficial fixes, or contact Dell’s official customer service to report this problem so that Dell can quickly solve it and provide a solution.
