ChromeOS will have fingerprint and face authentication feature

Google has not yet supported any form of biometric authentication fingerprint on its Chrome OS platform. Although Apple and Microsoft’s competing devices have long allowed users to choose to use some biometric authentication, whether it is native or through peripherals, Google has long since fallen behind, but now this situation may soon end.

A document from Chromium Gerrit shows that Google will provide face unlocking for ChromeOS, and related texts contained in OOBE have also been exposed in recent days. These texts include “Set up your fingerprint” and “Place your finger”. Indicates that Google is preparing to add support for fingerprint sensors to ChromeOS. Another short video found in the development version of Chrome OS 70 shows the setup process on the side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Google recently announced a new hardware campaign for its Pixel product within a month. We saw that the update of Pixelbook last year also makes sense. If Google is rolling out an update, the question remains whether the company will now provide biometric authentication on its laptop, or announce it and enable it in future updates.
