BMW showcases new XM hybrid concept car

BMW recently demonstrated a new concept car that uses a plug-in hybrid power system with a combination of the V8 engine and electric motor, called BMW XM. This new SUV belonging to the M series is the second M series exclusive model launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the M department after the M1. Mass production will begin at the Spartanburg, South Carolina plant at the end of 2022. Although it is still in the state of a concept car, considering the mass production in about a year, the official version should retain most of the design elements.

BMW XM is an independent M series model and the most powerful version of the series. It uses a V8 engine with a single motor, with a maximum output of 750 horsepower, a torque of 1000 Nm, a pure electric cruising range of 80km, and a 100-kilometer acceleration control within 4 seconds. However, BMW told the media that this is not necessarily the data of the final production model.

BMW XM integrates technology, sports, and luxury interiors very well, and its shape and design are very avant-garde. The shape of the whole car is very rigid, and the geometric shapes formed by various tough lines have a strong taste of mecha. The iconic “kidney-style” air intake grille with a large frontal size and an LED light strip attached to the frame makes it very visually impactful even at night. The door panels and electronic barriers are decorated with carbon fiber and silver plaques, equipped with a new one-piece curved dual screen, and the latest iDrive 8 human-computer interaction system is built-in.

The BMW Concept XM represents a complete re-imagining of the high-performance car segment,” says Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “It underlines the ability of BMW M GmbH to break with established conventions and push boundaries in order to offer fans of the brand the ultimate driving experience. The series-production car – the first pure BMW M model since the legendary BMW M1 – also shows how we are approaching the step-by-step electrification of our brand.”
