ASUS ROG Ally X: $799, Z1 Extreme, 1TB SSD, and Longer Playtime

Previously, ASUS confirmed the release of an upgraded version of the ROG Ally handheld, known as the ROG Ally X, scheduled for official launch on June 2nd and is expected to make an appearance at Computex 2024. The new model features a sleek black exterior and retains the same Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and display. However, it will have adjustments such as repositioning the MicroSD card reader, enhancing the battery, and increasing storage capacity.

According to Notebookcheck, the ROG Ally X handheld will exclusively feature the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, discontinuing the Ryzen Z1 version. The display remains a 7-inch FHD@120Hz screen, with storage upgraded to a 1TB SSD (supporting M.2 2280 specifications). The memory will also be larger (either 24GB or 32GB, yet to be confirmed) and faster (upgraded to LPDDR5X-7500). It will only be available in black to distinguish it from the previous model, with some ergonomic design optimizations and a slight increase in weight.

The ROG Ally X handheld is priced at $799, which is $100 more than the original ROG Ally. Considering the new model features a significantly larger battery (increased by over 40%) and enhanced storage, the higher price seems justified. According to ASUS, the battery life of the ROG Ally X handheld will see a substantial improvement.

Since the ROG Ally X is not an entirely new device but an upgraded version, there are no major performance leaps. ASUS has mainly focused on addressing the shortcomings of the original ROG Ally, making the device more user-friendly and better designed. ASUS will not reveal further details for now; additional information will be disclosed during Computex 2024.
