Apple co-founder sued Youtube due to bitcoin scams

This month, the social network Twitter encountered a large-scale cyber attack. The hackers used social engineering to attack a Twitter employee to control the Twitter accounts of many celebrities and then posted a message on each account to scam Bitcoin. In this scam, hackers have made a considerable amount of money, and they have collected at least $110,000 worth of Bitcoin.

Recently, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak announced that he has sued Youtube. The reason is similar to the above incident. Many scammers also uploaded the use of Steve Wozniak’s name to defraud on the Youtube platform.

Steve Wozniak stated that he had contacted Youtube before the lawsuit and asked the latter to delete these videos from the site, but Youtube did not give any reply.

So Steve Wozniak and 17 other people who have encountered similar scams jointly sued Youtube, requesting Youtube to delete the videos, and telling the video viewers that these are fraudulent videos that impersonate them.

Despite Plaintiffs’ and legions of other users’ repeated pleas that YouTube take timely action to end this bitcoin giveaway scam, YouTube repeatedly delayed or refused to do so,” reads the lawsuit. “As a result of defendants’ egregious failures to act and affirmative misconduct in promoting this criminal enterprise, Plaintiff Wozniak has suffered, and continues to suffer, irreparable harm to his reputation, and YouTube users, including plaintiffs, have been defrauded out of millions of dollars. Among other relief, Plaintiffs seek an order requiring YouTube to finally end its outrageous practice of hosting, promoting, and profiting from these criminally fraudulent videos and promotions.”
