Apple bets on periscope lenses, iPhone 15 Pro Max will account for 40% of total shipments of the new series

Apple has officially announced its Autumn 2023 product launch event, set to transpire at 10 a.m. on September 12th, during which the novel iPhone 15 series will be unveiled. This year’s generation will comprise four distinct models: the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Rumors abound that in a bid to accentuate distinctions in specifications and market positioning, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the sole model in the series to feature a periscopic zoom lens, purportedly offering 6x optical zoom. From Apple’s perspective, such an arrangement enhances the allure of its flagship device, marking an experimentation with new strategic initiatives. As per Wccftech, industry analysts anticipate that the singularly-equipped iPhone 15 Pro Max will account for 35% to 40% of the total shipments from the new series, establishing itself as the most shipped individual model.

Based on the latest statistics from Omdia, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, with a shipment volume of 26.5 million units in the first half of 2023, clinched the top spot, emerging as the most coveted smartphone. Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s shipments for the second half of 2024 are projected to burgeon by 10% to 20%. This surge can be largely attributed to its exclusive claim to the periscopic zoom lens, elevating the flagship model’s desirability.

Whispers suggest that next year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max will boast a “super-telephoto” feature, as Apple remains steadfast in refining its photographic technology, ushering in a slew of enhancements. Largan Precision currently holds the exclusive rights to supply the periscopic zoom lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, reaping substantial benefits from its collaboration with Apple.
