Apple accounts for the top seven of the ten best-selling models worldwide in 2023

According to the latest statistical report by Counterpoint, the top ten best-selling smartphones globally in 2023 were dominated by Apple, with the first seven models all being iPhones, while the remaining three positions were occupied by Samsung. The listed Apple models span from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 15 series. The report highlights an additional slot gained by Apple compared to 2022, and since 2021, no brands other than Samsung and Apple have made it to the list. In terms of market share, the top ten best-selling smartphones worldwide increased their share from 19% in 2022 to 20% in 2023, as depicted in the chart below:

The chart reveals that the iPhone 14 emerged as the best-selling model in 2023, with sales in the United States and China accounting for half of its total sales. This model constituted 19% of iPhone’s total sales in 2023, a decrease from the iPhone 13, which accounted for 28% of total iPhone sales in 2022. Apple’s sales performance in 2023 remained relatively stable compared to 2022, which may not be deemed favorable by Apple, especially when almost all Android brands experienced a decline in sales during the same period.

On the Android front, the list included three low-end models from Samsung: the Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy A04e, and Galaxy A14 4G, which ranked at the bottom three of the list. The Galaxy A14 5G, in particular, enjoyed high sales in the United States and India, becoming the best-selling smartphone in India for 2023. The Galaxy A04e and A14 4G, with their affordable pricing, performed well in markets such as Brazil and India, securing the ninth and tenth positions on the list.

Counterpoint concludes with a prediction that the market share of the top ten best-selling smartphones globally will continue to increase in 2024, with Chinese brands likely to enter the list. Moreover, probably, 4G models will no longer appear in the 2024 list.
