AMD’s Ryzen 8040 Hawk Point: Elevated Performance for Mobile Devices
AMD’s upcoming next-generation Ryzen 8040 mobile processor is expected to make its official debut at CES 2024. Known by its codename “Hawk Point,” details of its product lineup have recently emerged, encompassing the H, HS, and U series.
The specifications of Hawk Point bear a striking resemblance to the current Phoenix Point, featuring Zen4/Zen4c CPU cores paired with a GPU core based on the RDNA3 architecture, along with an AI acceleration unit utilizing the XDNA architecture. It is manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process and boasts up to 8 cores and 12 CU groups. According to the product list shared by @Harukaze5719, the Ryzen 8040H series includes three models, while the HS and U series each have two models, in addition to two PRO derivatives. Like the existing Ryzen 7040 series, these use FP8, FP7, and FP7R2 packaging.
Rumors suggest that the Phoenix chips used in Hawk Point will have new designations, likely to be named Phoenix 3 and Phoenix 4, corresponding to the current Phoenix 1 and Phoenix 2. The integrated GPU PCI IDs in the Ryzen 8040 series have undergone changes but are expected to retain names like Radeon 780M/760M and 740M.
From various sources, it appears that Hawk Point is a modest revision of the current Phoenix, with no substantial changes. It is not until mid-2024 that AMD plans to introduce Strix Point, based on Zen 5+RDNA 3.5+XDNA 2, which represents a more significant update.
