AMD Zen 4 architecture Ryzen processor, code-named Raphael will be configured with up to 16 cores
About more than a month ago, some news about AMD’s new generation AM5 socket and the Zen 4 architecture Ryzen processor code-named Raphael was exposed on the Internet. Let us know that the socket type of AM5 will be changed from PGA to LGA, there will be 1718 pins, the original 40×40 mm size of AM4 socket is retained, and the contact distribution diagram of the processor using LGA 1718 socket. At the same time, the rendering of the Raphael processor, let us know the general appearance of this Zen 4 architecture desktop processor. Its integrated heat sink (IHS) will have two notches on each side, and its slightly clumsy appearance has aroused the curiosity of many people.
It is understood that this Zen 4 architecture processor will be manufactured using TSMC’s 5nm process, and the IOD will be manufactured using a 6nm or 7nm process, with an integrated RDNA 2 architecture core display, provide 28 PCIe Gen4 channels, support dual-channel DDR5-5200 memory, may support native USB 4.0 interface, TDP between 105W-120W, can be configured up to 170W version, and provide a frequency of about 5GHz.
Recently, the Twitter user @ExecuFix who previously leaked the news said that the Zen 4 architecture Ryzen processor code-named Raphael may be the Ryzen 6000 series, and its maximum number of cores is configured to 16, compared to the Ryzen 5000 series of Zen 3 architecture, the number of cores will not increase. The reason is that the number of cores provided by AMD is already more than that of Intel. It is not necessary to continue to increase, and it is not worth doing that from the perspective of cost and heat generation. At the same time, too high specifications will threaten one’s own HEDT platform and affect the Ryzen Threadripper series processors.
It is expected that in actual use, the new products of the Zen 4 architecture will not consume more power than the Zen 3 architecture products, although the TDP seems to be higher. AMD is not in a hurry to get the Raphael processor on the market. There are rumors that it will not appear until around the third quarter of 2022. At present, the Ryzen 5000 series is performing very well. At the same time, the new product with 3D V-Cache will increase the L3 cache to 192MB. At this stage, it has enough strength to fight with Intel processors.
