AMD will host a series of conferences at the upcoming GDC 2022, one of which will be about next-generation image scaling technology. According to previous news, it has been learned that the content will involve FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), AMD will introduce the latest
FSR 2.0 version and officially launch RSR.
AMD
released a teaser trailer to warm up the upcoming new AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition. From the official information, the new driver will focus on three aspects, namely AMD Link, Privacy View, and Radeon Super Resolution.
Radeon Super Resolution is not used to replace FidelityFX Super Resolution or fight against NVIDIA DLSS, and its positioning is closer to NVIDIA’s Image Scaling. Radeon Super Resolution is to make up for the lack of the number of games that currently support FidelityFX Super Resolution to cover more games.
Technically, Radeon Super Resolution is an algorithmically evolved version of FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0, but the quality is lower than the FidelityFX Super Resolution. It is built into the driver level, bypassing the need to deploy in a specific location in the graphics pipeline. The advantage is that it can support almost any game without optimization, but only RDNA and RDNA 2 architecture GPUs can support it, which has greater limitations. Previous rumors suggested that Polaris and Vega architecture GPUs could also support it, but at least it doesn’t seem to be possible for now.
AMD has previously stated that Radeon Super Resolution will be launched in the first quarter of this year, and AMD will soon fulfill its promise. In addition, AMD will also release a trailer for FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, the much-anticipated update that is said to be released in the second quarter of 2022.
