AMD unveils the new Ryzen 7040U series processors

AMD unveils the new Ryzen 7040U series processors, primarily designed for thin and light laptops, offering enhanced computational and graphical performance while supporting extended battery life.

Constructed using the Zen 4 architecture, the Ryzen 7040U series processors boast up to 8 cores and 16 threads, with a maximum operating frequency of 5.1GHz. They integrate the RDNA 3 architecture-based Radeon 700M graphics design and the XDNA architecture-based AMD Ryzen AI computing component, catering to a variety of artificial intelligence acceleration demands. Their thermal design power ranges between 15 and 30 watts.

AMD emphasizes the Ryzen 7040U series processors’ faster response efficiency and multicore multitasking capabilities, suitable for even thinner PC devices. The focus of the upgrade lies in bolstering graphical performance, with the Radeon 700M graphics design operating at a maximum frequency of 2.7GHz. Achieving up to 8.6 TFLOPS in single-precision performance, it supports higher memory transfer bandwidths, DisplayPort 2.1 output, and enhanced real-time ray tracing acceleration.

Comparing the Ryzen 7 7840U with the Radeon 780M graphics design to Intel’s Core i7-1360P, improvements of at least 129% are observed in use cases such as content creation, web browsing, productivity, and multimedia encoding.

Even when compared to Apple’s M2 processor, the Ryzen 7 7840U exhibits at least a 105% improvement in web browsing, image editing, 3D rendering, and multitasking scenarios.

Regarding gaming performance, the Ryzen 7 7840U outperforms the Core i7-1360P by at least 130% in games such as Dota 2, Strange Brigade, CS:GO, Total War: Warhammer 2, League of Legends, and Trenches 6. In Cyberpunk 2077, performance enhancements reach up to 239%.

With the AMD Ryzen AI computing component, battery efficiency is improved, processor performance is optimized, and artificial intelligence application experiences are enhanced when combined with software such as Windows 11.

The Ryzen 7040U series processors include the Ryzen 7 7840U, Ryzen 7 7640U, Ryzen 7 7540U, and Ryzen 7 7440U. Devices featuring these processors will be launched soon.
