AMD may launch Radeon RX 7800M graphics card
Last year, AMD unveiled an array of RDNA 3 architecture graphics cards for mobile platforms, including the Radeon RX 7700/7600 series (M/S/XT) featuring the Navi 33 GPU, and the Radeon RX 7900M powered by Navi 31. This lineup of mobile platform discrete graphics cards, however, was not comprehensive, notably missing a mainstream product equipped with the Navi 32 GPU.
Recently, enthusiasts, through scrutinizing AMD’s shipping inventory, discovered that there are 43 products based on the Navi 31/32/33 chips. Some of these have already hit the market, while others are yet to make their debut. Products based on the Navi 32 chip, codenamed “Cuarzo Verde,” include desktop platform products such as Radeon PRO W7700, Radeon RX 7700/7700 XT, and Radeon RX 7800 XT. Notably absent is the rumored Radeon RX 7800. Additionally, there are two designs specifically for mobile platforms.
It’s conjectured that the mobile platform product based on the Navi 32 chip is likely to be the Radeon RX 7800M, targeting gamers seeking high refresh rates and superior graphics quality in 1080P and moderately demanding 1440P. Its introduction would significantly enrich the mobile platform’s discrete graphics card lineup. The absence of the Radeon RX 7700M also hints at this possibility. Earlier rumors had suggested that AMD was preparing both the Radeon RX 7700M and 7800M. While AMD’s graphics cards may lag behind Nvidia’s counterparts in ray-tracing performance, they continue to be impressive in traditional rasterization gaming.
With CES 2024 fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether AMD will seize this opportunity to augment its lineup of discrete graphics cards for mobile platforms.
