AMD launches RYZEN 5000 series processors

At the International Consumer Electronics Show, AMD announced the launch of RYZEN 5000 series processors for notebook computers. These processors are based on the 7nm Zen 3 architecture.

These processors include 4 cores with 8 threads, 6 cores with 12 threads, and 8 cores with 16 threads. AMD also said that this series is the only x86 chip for ultra-thin notebooks.

The RYZEN 5000-U series processor is launched for thin and light notebooks. It has 8 cores and 16 threads but the power consumption is only 15W, suitable for thin and light notebooks and improves battery life.

For example, the RYZEN 5000U series processor has a 16% increase in single-thread performance and a 14% increase in multi-thread performance compared with previous generation products, providing up to 21 hours of battery life.

AMD said that the RYZEN 5000HX processor was launched for gaming laptops, with a power consumption of 45W, 8-core 16 threads, and a maximum frequency of 4.8GHz.

Compared with the previous generation, the RYZEN 9 5980HX processor has a 23% increase in single-thread performance and a 17% increase in multi-thread performance. It is suitable for the gamer and creative workers.

AMD said that these new processors will start shipping in February 2021, when OEM manufacturers such as Asus, HP, and Lenovo will launch corresponding new products.
