AMD is preparing for the USB4 DisplayPort Tunneling

According to Phoronix reports, AMD is currently developing a new GPU driver for Linux. This series of operations is centered on supporting the USB4 DisplayPort Tunneling. Since AMD’s current hardware does not support USB4, this indicates that the situation is changing. Perhaps AMD will follow up on USB4 soon.
USB4 specification
In the USB4 specification, DisplayPort 1.4/2.0 (including DisplayPort Alt Mode) is allowed for tunnel transmission. This is the focus of AMD’s new GPU driver. DisplayPort display signals are provided through the USB4 interface. It is said that AMD is likely to provide support on the APU of the mobile platform code-named “Rembrandt”, and then expand to Ryzen series CPUs and GPUs based on the new generation architecture.

Tunneling is a new feature introduced by USB4, comes from the integrated Thunderbolt 3 function, allowing multiple protocols including USB, DisplayPort, and PCIe to run simultaneously (the bandwidth occupied by each protocol may be reduced), which is not the same as allowing only one protocol to be in working state at a time in the normal USB mode same.
It is understood that AMD’s new version of the driver may catch up with the launch of Linux 5.16, which means that AMD is providing support for the next generation of CPU and GPU in USB4.
