Previously, AMD Ryzen series processors may suffer performance degradation when running certain applications on Windows 11. Under normal circumstances, the impact is about 3%-5%. In some e-sports games, there is even an extreme decrease of 10%-15%. This troubles many AMD users. AMD even recommends that users who are more affected continue to use Windows 10 and wait for relevant updates.

The performance degradation problem is mainly attributed to two aspects. One type is that the latency of L3 may increase three times, causing some applications that are sensitive to memory and cache to be affected. Games are one of them. The other is the “preferred core” function, which means that threads are allocated to the two fastest cores, but it may not work as planned in Windows 11, this performance degradation is most obvious in processors with 8 or more cores and a TDP of 65W or higher. Later both AMD and Microsoft said they plan to launch relevant updates within this month and provide corresponding solutions.
A few days ago, Microsoft has released Windows 11 Build 22000.282 (KB5006746 Update) to Windows Insider members of the Beta and Release Preview channels, among them is to fix the latency problem of the L3 cache on AMD Ryzen series processors. In addition, AMD also released the AMD Chipset Drivers motherboard chipset driver version 3.10.08.506 to solve the “preferred core” function problem in Windows 11 Build 22000.189 or later. Users of AMD Ryzen series processors can download and install patches and drivers corresponding to fix the performance degradation.
