AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 to come soon
At the upcoming GDC 2022, AMD will host a series of conferences covering game optimization, development kits, rendering, and ray tracing, and one of the topics will be the next generation of image scaling technology. Since there is no direct mention of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), and AMD also has a technology called Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), the specific content has attracted speculation from all parties.
Recently, a developer from CapFrameX said that they have seen the demo screen of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, which is impressive. AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution uses low-resolution images for multi-frame synthesis. Unlike NVIDIA’s DLSS or Intel’s XeSS principle, it is not based on AI-assisted machine learning, and there are four quality options to choose from. The developers say the upcoming FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 is widely available on a wide variety of GPUs, delivering great performance and image quality.
AMD may unveil FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 at GDC 2022, and make relevant introductions, but the new version should not be released at this conference, and it will take some time. This may be related to the progress of the Radeon RX 7000 series based on the RDNA 3 architecture, which needs to be coordinated with the release of a new generation of GPUs.
