AMD confirms that it will launch a new RX 7000 graphics card this quarter
In a recent financial conference call, AMD expressed its intention to further expand the Radeon RX 7000 graphics card product line that utilizes the RDNA3 architecture. AMD has already crafted three high-end products using the Navi 31 GPU, namely RX 7900 XTX, RX 7900 XT, and RX 7900 GRE. The RX 7900 GRE is primarily supplied to the DIY market in Mainland China, while other global regions receive it through system suppliers. The Navi 33 GPU, on the other hand, is used for the mainstream RX 7600 graphics card, specifically for the 1080p gaming domain.
However, it appears that AMD will once again shift its focus from entry-level and mainstream gamers to the enthusiast market. Dr. Lisa Su, AMD’s CEO, indicated their ambition to further expand the product line of their new enthusiast-level graphics cards in the third quarter.
In fact, AMD may be launching more than one product this time. The RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT are currently categorized as “super-enthusiast” products. The conference did not mention whether the new cards would replace the current Navi 31 products, or introduce slightly more affordable but still enthusiast-level solutions priced between $500 and $700. AMD has virtually no products in this price range, while its competitor NVIDIA has the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070, which have been on the market for a while.
According to rumors, AMD plans to introduce two new graphics cards based on the RDNA 3 architecture, the RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT. The RX 7800 XT may be equipped with 16GB of VRAM, and the RX 7700 XT with 12GB, similar to their predecessors, the RX 6800 XT and RX 6700 XT. If priced between $400 and $500, the RX 7700 XT could potentially hold a better market position than the RTX 4060 series. If the RX 7800 XT is priced between $550 and $650, it could pose a significant challenge to the RTX 4070 series.
The launch timing could coincide with the end of this month’s Cologne Gaming Show. Frankly, the RTX 4060 series is indeed underwhelming, and there is eager anticipation for what new offerings AMD might bring to gamers.
